Re-cap: Untracked freeriding and yoga retreat
Rugged Riders Untracked freeriding and yoga retreat went off on February 11th-13th, 2011. Campers gathered with the guides on Friday night to get informed about mountain safety, learn transceiver skills and participate in a group yoga session. Rugged Rider Lizzay Canters used her newly acquired transceiver skills to achieve the fastest time and take home next years Landyachtz ‘Nine to Five’ longboard setup!
Our stomachs were filled with a yummy organic vegetarian meal, freshly prepared by local chef Camie Bryar. The gathering of girls must have woken up the snow goddesses, as a strong storm cycle blew in as the Friday night activities begun.
We woke up Saturday morning to the sounds of avalanche control bombs being set off by Whistler ski patrol – a welcome sound that means the day is bound to be good. Groups set out with their guides to find untracked lines, new terrain, and as many face shots as they could slash through. The heavy snowfall and high winds throughout the day ensured that our tracks were filled in run after run. The girls were fuelled by Vega shake-and-go smoothies so they could brave the storm all day long.
Everyone was tired after a long day of riding so we headed down to David’s Tea for ‘aprés’. A Rugged Riders custom selection of “Green Seduction” (a fruit and green tea blend) gave the girls a kick-start for afternoon activities including board tuning tips and Yin Yoga.
We awoke Sunday morning to another powder day with clear skies. Who could ask for more perfect riding conditions than bluebird skies and deep powder? That’s pretty hard to beat! Everyone headed over to Blackcomb to check out some new zones. The advanced group waited near the start of a long lift line for the alpine to open and were rewarded with untracked lines down 7th Heaven. Good thing our female filmer Kezia and female photographers Erin Hogue and Darby Magill were on hand to capture this epic weekend!
After an amazing two days of shredding untracked lines with the Rugged Riders crew, everyone went home with goody bags filled with product from Rip Curl, Voleurz, Bern helmets, Landyachtz longboards, Vega, SBCWomen.com, David’s Tea, and Fruv Freedomwear. Keep your eyes peeled for next year’s Untracked retreat!
